The initial appointment is 90 minutes to allow enough time to gain an understanding of your history and the areas you are wanting support in, and set practical goals to work towards. From there, standard consultations are 50 minutes. The frequency and total number of sessions varies according to the individuals needs.
We do not provide support under Workers Compensation or CTP claims.
There are a range of reasons why someone might seek the additional support of psychological therapy. It can be daunting to start therapy, so at Building Blocks Psychology, we aim to make the process as smooth and comfortable as possible. As allies to the LGBTQIA+ and neurodivergent communities, we encourage you to be yourself in our space.

What is a Mental Health Treatment Plan?A Mental Health Treatment Plan (or MHTP) is a referral made by your General Practitioner, Paediatrician or Psychiatrist under the Better Access to Mental Health Care scheme. It allows access to Medicare rebates of $141.85 (as of July 2024) for a 50-minute consultation for a maximum of 10 sessions per calendar year.
-
I don't have a MHTP. Can I still attend sessions?Of course you can! If you have private health insurance with psychology extras cover, you may be able to claim a portion of the session cost back.
-
Can I use a MHTP and my private insurance cover? No, you can only claim rebates from one scheme. It may be worth checking with your insurer as to which one you will get the highest rebates from. The amount from your private insurance cover will vary based on your insurer and your extras plan.
-
How many sessions will I need?Everyone's journey and reasons for attending therapy is different. Therapy is personalised and tailored to the individual so the number of sessions expected is usually discussed in the first session.
-
Can I do my sessions via telehealth? You can! It is important to ensure that you have the space to talk privately without interruptions and that you have access to a good internet connection for online sessions.
